July 9th is National Sugar Cookie Day. We made hundreds today at the bakery! Some the give away and some to sell for the amazing price of .25! It will be a fun day. 🙂
I thought I would share one of my sugar cookie recipes with you. There are about 6 that I use on a normal basis! These are the chewy, crispy edged, crackly kind. My mom says they are the kind a Grandma would make to which I said “Thanks? I think?” They really are super delicious and easy.
Old Fashioned Sugar Cookie Recipe
1 cup Butter, softened
1 1/2 cups Granulated Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
2 3/4 cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
3-4 Tablespoons Buttermilk
Preheat oven to 365. Mix flour, baking soda and baking powder in a bowl; set aside. Mix butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and mix until smooth. Add dry mixture. Mix until completely incorporated. Dough will be a little stiff. Add enough buttermilk to make dough soft but not soft enough to stick to your hand. With cookie scoot, measure out cookies. Roll dough in sugar and press down with a glass. Bake 8-10 minutes or until golden brown on the edges and flat in middle.
So there it is. I do not think you will be disappointed! Enjoy!
